Provisional writing in small groups

the little treasures or finds from the weekend brought to class in the morning provide an opportunity for trial work on encoding, also called provisional writing or invented writing. We are also in the field of writing production.

I thank for this nice gift to the class then I take a picture of the child with his gift then when the time comes, in small groups or in a class group depending on the period of the year, a sentence will be encoded then placed in the life book with the photo.

Encoding workshop:

  • 1 A3 sheet fixed to the board as well as the photo printed in A4 format

  • suggest a sentence to encode

  • segment into words orally then draw a line for each word in pencil

  • encoding by students in thick felt-tip pens (I write all the phonemes I know how to do and skip those I don't know)

  • the group will re-read their sentence when regrouping.
