Handling
Game using the small equipment available in the class or tokens

During game-activities, the teacher uses color vocabulary to suggest or request game elements (vocabulaire en reception). Limit the number of colors according to the students' abilities.

Then, ask the students to show or give an object of the requested color.

Get the children to formulate the color of the piece they are missing (vocabulary in production)

(we can do the same work in the drawing workshop with markers)

Assess language skills on an observation grid

With counters: sorting activity (2 colors only to start)

  • show me a red token, show me a yellow token

  • make a red caterpillar, make a yellow caterpillar

  • place the tokens in their ring (place a yellow and a red ring as well as a box of tokens)

  • stick the stickers in their hoop (see student sheet)

The Pirates
Game using color concept

Domain :  Mathematics

Goals :

  • Material classification according to the 3 colors: RED - BLUE - YELLOW

  • React to sound signal

Location :motor room

Material :

  • 3 boats = 3 benches adorned with 3 pennants (plots + sticks + scarves) one of each color

  • Red, blue and yellow scarves

  • Bottles (= RBJ skittles), chests (= boxes/asco RBJ blocks), oars (= batons moyens RBJ)

  • a tambourine

  • Know the nursery rhyme: Boat on the water

Procedure:

In the motor skills room, three boats are materialized by three benches with a flag of a different color.

The children will sit near the boxes of scarves to listen to the instructions.

Introduce the game to children:

Today we are going to play pirates. There are 3 pirate ships in the playroom, these are the benches. To play, we will get into the boats, for that, you have to sit astride the bench.

Before going on the boats, you will dress up as pirates by putting on a scarf.

First stage :

  • Problem situation:

Each child chooses a scarf and then goes in a boat.

The scarves can be put around the neck, on the head, around the arm...

  • Analysis of responses:

Random distribution of children unrelated to the color of the boat

The child associated the color of his scarf with the chosen boat

They did not all move in the same direction. (this will be important later)

-> Point out the color of the flag of each boat then new distribution of children

Bring out the need to go to the boat of the color of the scarf.

  • New test with sound signal

The children came back to the boxes of scarves. We are going to go on the boats again, without taking the wrong color, and this time at the signal of the tambourine.

Make several attempts with changing scarves to improve the distribution.

Second step :

  • The children are now in the boats:

Before going to sea, you must take the equipment : bottles (of rum), chests of gold, oars to move the boat forward. Everyone must take the material of the color of their boat.

At the signal of the tambourine, fetch :

  1. bottles

  2. the chests

  3. trains

The material being placed near the boxes of scarves, pell-mell.

  • Analysis of responses:

Each time, check that the child has brought back the right object, of the right color.

Put the bottles and chests in the hold (under the bench)

  • Watch out for departure !

When the children have the oars, mime “ row ”. This is when it is important that everyone is in the same direction.

And we sing the nursery rhyme ;

Boat on the water

the river the river

Boat on the water

the river by the water

Small boat overturned

little guy just fell

Splash !

(and the kids fall in the water...they love it!)

We pick up the equipment, bring it back near the boxes of scarves and start the game again.

Extensions :

In class

  • Sorting of RBJ material (pencils, markers, papers, game elements, caps, etc.)

  • Sheet to keep track

On an A4 sheet, sketch with markers a boat R a B and a J with flag

Ask the child to stick the RBJ stickers according to the color criterion.

Thick rectangle = chest

Disc = bottle

Thin rectangle = oar

  • For the older ones, you can ask to draw the game, after the session in the motor skills room.

Little section

from the song: Ahoy! small train

For the traditional school party dance, we made costumes using painted cardboard to make the little train in the colors of the song.

The locomotive moves and the children come to hang behind as soon as they hear the name of their color.

Develop autonomy in functional reading situations

Goals:

  • Develop autonomy in functional reading situations

    • know how to use a repository (the color dictionary)

    • take cues from words

First in a supervised workshop to understand how it works, then independently with different levels of requirement

Material :

  • color dictionary (individual, placed in student sprite)

  • coloring pages that will be adapted  with different types of instructions

Different levels of difficulty:

  • the names of the colors are written in the coloring (example of fiche: color flower color code)

  • the surfaces to be colored are coded (the student must refer to a legend external to the drawing)

    • with the initial of the color name

    • with graphic shapes

    • with numbers

    • with dots
