Christmas: Stories to tell

The little tree

Once upon a time there was a little tree.

Alone, in the forest, among the other trees that had leaves, he had needles, nothing but needles.

How he complained!

“All my classmates have beautiful leaves, very green leaves. Me... I have quills!

I would like to have, to make them want, leaves all in gold! »

And the next day when he awoke, he was dazzled:............read more

The visit of the Spiders

I'm going to tell you something that happened to a Christmas tree, so, so long, so long, so long ago that I forget when.

It was Christmas Eve. The tree was already full, with candles, shiny sconces, yellow oranges and red apples, golden nuts and toys.

It really was a very beautiful tree. He was very quiet in the large living room, the doors of which had been closed to prevent the children from entering it until the next day.

But, except for the children, everyone in the house had admired the tree.

.......

But there were still people who had not seen the tree.......Read more

Two Christmas tales to analyze and compare

The Snow Child

  • Reading of the tale

  • Have the difficult words explained: incredulous - the dew - to shape - the white moor - mischievous - accomplice - season - stay - toil - to scold - interminable - to mope - to evaporate

puis en donner une définition accessible à tous_d04a07d8-9cd1-3239-9149 -20813d6c673b_.

  • On a poster, note under the dictation of the students, the elements that characterize this first tale.

  • Highlighting the timeline in the "what?"

The Snow Child

Who?

  • a snowman: Christmas

  • Mariette, the mother

  • John, the dad

  • Paul, Toinette; children

Where ?

  • in the countryside

When ?

  • in winter then in spring and summer

What ?

  • It's winter, Mariette and Jean see a snowman. Mariette gives him a hug and he comes alive.

  • spring is coming, mom locks up Christmas.

  • it escapes in the summer and disappears.

The Little Snow Boy

  • Reading of the tale

  • Have the difficult words explained: selvedge - badly joined - knit - varnished clogs - clothe - pupils - fix - slits - small house (look for words in "ette") - transform

puis en donner une définition accessible à tous_d04a07d8-9cd1-3239-9149 -20813d6c673b_.

  • On a poster, note under the dictation of the students, the elements that characterize this second tale.

  • Highlighting the timeline in the "what?"

The Little Snow Boy

Who?

  • two old people (one old - one old)

  • a little snow boy: Jean-Noël

  • Santa

Where ?

  • a small wooden house in the forest

When ?

  • in winter, at Christmas, in December

What ?

  • It's winter, two good old people want a child to help them cut the wood and repair the house.

  • the old man makes a snow boy.

  • Santa Claus turns him into a real boy and they live happily ever after.

Comparison

In both tales, the initial situation is identical: two elderly couples who wish to have a child.

First tale:

  • The parents discover the snow child by chance.

  • The child is transformed thanks to the love of his parents.

  • Child who has a child's life (he has friends, he plays....)

  • But there is still fragile snow and its disappearance is announced as summer approaches.

  • He disappears with the promise of a return.

A more difficult tale because it is more poetic and addresses the theme of life/death, the renewal of the seasons and the hope of a return.

Second tale:

  • The old man decides to make a snow boy.

  • The child is transformed thanks to the love of his parents who make clothes for him.

  • He is a strong, courageous child who helps his parents.

  • Santa Claus magically transforms him into a real little boy.

Rather easy story, with a happy ending thanks to the magic of Santa Claus.

The comparison of the two tales leads to the comparison of the two snow children.

Let the students express themselves on each other.

  • What becomes of Christmas? Will he come back to see Toinette? imagine a sequel

  • What do you think of Jean-Noel? Is this a story for today? How did children live in the past? Why did Santa Claus decide to transform Jean-Noël into a real child? (to be compared to the story of Pinocchio)
