Period 5 - The Bigmouth Frog

Elodie Nouhem - Francine Vidal (ed Didier youth)

This album, full of humour, is a classic hiking tale and makes it possible to identify the characteristics of this genre by its clear and repetitive structure.

The story takes place in Africa.

Oral language:

Identify the structure of the story - Anticipate the rest of the story

Session 1

  • Playing the album

read the album, stopping when the frog decides to return home "Bah, if it's like that, I'm going home to swallow flies."

  • First attempts to restore history

Session 2

  • Replaying the album, stopping as before

  • Highlight the following 3 parts:

- the initial situation = presentation of the hero, his place and his way of life

- the problem situation = the frog would like to eat something other than flies

- the quest = she travels and meets other animals

Session 3

  • The characters encountered

list the animals in the story,

among these animals, clearly identify the interlocutors of the frog (there are 5)

Session 4

  • Anticipate the rest of the story

The frog decides to go home to swallow flies.

How could the story end?

Will the frog problem be solved? if yes, how ?

  • Back to album

"But back on her lily pad, she sees...two eyes in the pond."

imagine whose eyes are those.

read the end of the story.

Can the frog change its life?

If this is how it should be, can things be changed?

Transferring the story to another place

Imagine the same story but elsewhere than in Africa

  • Choose a country or region

  • Choose a character (the hero)and other interlocutors

  • Keep the same structure

Write the proposals on the board or on a poster

Sorting out what is plausible from what is not according to the chosen location

Research animal diets

Write the story under the dictation of the children, give it a title

Making a mini book

  • use of word processing for rewriting text

  • choice of a plastic technique for the realization of the illustrations and the cover
